AREA is an initiative founded to coordinate and facilitate contemporary art commissions for artists facing systemic challenges. It provides space to explore new methods of work not possible without additional resourcing. AREA is currently focused on supplementing Indigenous Australian Art Centres with curatorial, administrative and material support.

Founder / Director

Henri Cash-Finlay is an artist and curator with half a decade of experience working in remote Indigenous Art Centres, noting positions across Australia from the regions of the East Kimberly, West Arnhem Land, Central Desert and Tiwi Islands. He has curated and produced exhibitions for Warmun Art Centre, Injalak Arts and Crafts and Barkly Regional Arts and was an Australian delegate for the 2024 Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture in Hawaii. Henri continues to support remote Art Centres through his network of curators, gallerists, Art Centre managers and collectors under the banner of AREA standing as an advocate for Indigenous Art when working overseas.
